The Kingdom of Throal

The dwarf kingdom of Throal lies in the massive Throal Mountains, Barsaive’s largest mountain range. The kingdomconsists of two main parts. The Halls of Throal were built centuriesago and sheltered the kingdom during the Scourge. Since theScourge, the kingdom has constructed the Inner Cities of Bethabal,Oshane, Tirtaga, Wishon, and Yistane. The cities of Hustane andValvria have only recently been opened to settlement, and plans fortwo more cities, Raithabal and Thurdane, are in the works.Nearly a third of Barsaive’s population has accepted the dwarfkingdom’s invitation to live in Throal, with about 30,000 Namegiversliving in the Halls, and another 25,000 living in each of theInner Cities (though the newest cities are more sparsely populatedat present). All of the multi-leveled cities boast large bazaars, aswell as some of the finest inns and taverns in Barsaive. They areruled by noble houses that have sworn fealty to King Neden. Whilethe houses have spearheaded the Barsaivian resistance to Theranoccupation, they also control trade in the kingdom. The majornoble houses are Chaozun, Garsun, Ludi, Mikul, Pa’vas, Ueraven,Byril’ya, Elcomi, Neumani, Sarafica, and Yilwaz.Though most Barsaivians remain strongly allied to Throal, asthey did during the Theran War, some have become suspiciousof Throal’s current politics. Since the assassination of his father,King Neden is close to fighting a war on two fronts. The questionof Throal’s role in the future of Barsaive is slowly dividing the oldguard and the reformists in the kingdom, and some fear it will leadThroalic society into a civil war.

Mountain Settlements

The sovereignty of Throal extends beyond the undergroundkaer and the Inner Cities. King Neden also rules over roughlytwenty thousand people living in small settlements scatteredthroughout the Throal Mountains. Most of these communities aremining towns financed by Throal’s noble houses.
